We headed back for the States on this day. Whew, it was a rough getting home.
I stole this from Anna's blog because she told the story better than I would.
We boarded the plane in London at 3pm. We sat at the gate all loaded on the plane for a hour and 45 minutes. Talk about starting the trip off frustrated! Something happened in one of the cargo holds and it took them awhile to get it fixed. We finally took off and the 7 hour flight to Toronto was uneventful. The kids actually did awesome. I was probably the biggest whiner of the group. All our planes had TVs in the headrests with plenty of choices so they did great. In the airports we had more problems, but we made it.
When we got to Toronto there were thunderstorms, so we spent another hour circling Toronto. It was a 7 hour flight turned into almost 10. Yikes. My body did not like it. But I wore my sweet compression hose and walked around a lot so I did fine.
In Toronto we had to get all our baggage, go through customs and then check it all again. We were missing one bag for about 30 minutes and then it finally came right before they closed the customs. It was about 8pm Toronto time, 1 am London time, so the kids were not in top form during this waiting period. Jake ended up passing out right by the baggage claim just laid out on the floor. We got some special looks.
We were totally late (about a hour) for our connecting flight, but luckily nothing was taking off on time because of the thunderstorms, so we sat at our gate for only about 30 minutes before we got on our last plane. We landed in Vegas at about 11:45pm (8am London time), just over a hour late overall from our original arrival time. Air travel is pretty amazing, as painful as the flights were for me. The kids slept the entire second flight, so it was great. We were so happy to be back to the US!
